The folkdancegroup "düsseldorfer grashüpper" was founded in September 1953 by employees of the chemical company Henkel in Düsseldorf-Holthausen. Out of the special sport "folkdance", which unfortunately is not so popular today, started still more than only a free time activity. A world ideology, which spellbound the people still today. So contacts to folkdancegroups in Netherland, Belgium and France were made in the first years and later also to groups in England and Ireland.

But contacts to Sweden and Swedisch folkdancegroups were very intensiv, because the founder of the group Hans Burger was married to a swedish woman. Dancing on grass gave the goup their name - the "grashüpper" from Düsseldorf.

Nowadays the group is independant and everybody is welcome.
